It's Christmas Time
Read up about what 5 local musicians; Kriss Tel, Bouwer Bosch of Straatligkinders; Lindi Delport of Daypoem; Adele Kruger and YMCtheband; have to say about Christmas - what they believe and how they celebrate it.
Kriss Tel: Well, like most Christians I would say that Christmas is the day we especially remember how much God loves us; seeing that God sent Jesus to show us how to live and love and then died and raised from the dead so we can have direct intimate relationship with Him... How I celebrate? Usually I'm with my family - husband, brothers and sister and maybe parents; we eat good food and spend quality time together, relaxing and having fun... I'll also have my daily routine time spending with God in some way, maybe write to Him, just sit with Him in nature , read the bible...
Bouwer Bosch of Straatligkinders: Personally, I feel that Christmas has become a very materialistic event that takes the focus off what really happened when Jesus was born. But I know its not like this everywhere. I think people should use the attitude of giving during Christmas and apply it to the rest of their life and the whole year. I think that can help to save the world from poverty and sickness.
Lindi Delport of Daypoem:
Christmas for us is the celebration of our faith in Jesus Christ, and the fact that he was born, and crucified for us. It brings everyone together in a good spirit to enjoy and celebrate the year that have passed with its joys...and challenges. Plus, getting presents is always fun, hehe!
Adele Kruger So, it's Christmas and the first thing that comes to mind.... presents, presents and more presents!!! It's true, we all like Christmas because of the presents. But the truth is it's so much more than that! We are celebrating the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Until recently, my 6 year old was convinced that Santa Clause existed, so 2 weeks ago, I told her the truth. I must say she handled it well. She had a few questions about what happened to the cookies and milk she left for Santa last year and where the presents under the tree came from and I told her the truth. I believe that even with all the presents and food and celebrations, our children needs to understand what Christmas is all about. So, I've decided from now on, every Christmas morning, I will sit down and tell my daughter (and those to come) the story of the three wise men, Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus. And I will explain to her that we give each other presents because we can't give Jesus earthly gifts as He lives in Heaven. But the greatest gift we can give Him, is our heart. Let us remember what Christmas is all about. Love one another like Christ loves us! Merry Christmas!
YMC the Band We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all your love, prayers and assistance throughout this year. The year 2008 was a great year for YMCtheband and we want to give God all the praise for being the set of footprints beside ours. Thanks for being there for us Daddy God. We love you with all our hearts. Without good friends and prayer partners this road can be very lonely and tough. That's why Christmas is there, to remind us that we should treasure our loved ones, reflect on the blessings that God gave us and give unconditionally. Our prayers are with those that have lost loved ones this year, had major life altering occurrences and things that's just aren't nice. Let's make this Christmas time, a time for being thankful for what we have, thanking God for family and friends. Not forgetting the homeless and hungry. Make somebody's day and feed, clothe and give them some love this Christmas, that's what this season is all about. Giving. Giving of yourself and your wealth. We will be spending Christmas apart as a group. Glisson will be with his family in Kimberley (lost their dad a few days ago), Ryan with his girlfriend's family, Darryl with his parents in Joburg and Darren with his family in Joburg. On Christmas day we will be found in Church where ever we are and definitely having a traditional Christmas lunch with loved ones. New years eve we will be back together as YMCtheband at church at Rhema South and afterwards have a huge bash at Ryan's place with 100 of our close supporters and friends. May the splendor of this season remind you of Him who is worthy of all our praise. Merry Christmas and many good wishes for a new year of happiness and prosperity. Thanks so much for your support!
